Madi Paidi Bangkok, Autograph Collection is a remarkable urban sanctuary that seamlessly integrates artistic expression with luxurious comfort. Located in Bangkokโs vibrant Sukhumvit district, one street away from the buzzing Thong Lor (Soi Sukhumvit 55) filled with trendy restaurants and cafes, this hotel transcends the typical hospitality experience by offering a stay that is as visually entralling as it is soothing. Madi Paidi stands as a testament to the Autograph Collectionโs brand personality, which celebrates the individuality of each hotel, inspired by a clear vision, soul, and story that is distinct and original: Exactly Like Nothing Else.
The overall design and guest experience is a meticulously crafted journey that will appeal to anyone who appreciates the fusion of artistry and playfulness. The name of the hotel “Madi Paidi” is inspired by contrast and parallelism of its location – a tribute to the origins of the street it is located on – Soi Pai Dee Ma Dee. It is also a clever wordplay to show hospitality: “ma dee” wishing one a pleasant arrival and “pai dee” wishing bon voyage.Similarly, the walkways to the
An Alchemistโs Haven
From the moment you step into Madi Paidi Bangkok, there are elements of thoughtful design that delivers delightful surprises at every turn. There is an overall cleverness to the design – their staff uniform (there is a quirky handcuff design on the male staff’s shirt cuffs), and the female staff’s dresses reflect the playfulness with a checkered style. to the lobby ceilings, and wall artworks, the 56-room hotel is filled with colourful canvases that tell a story of cultural richness in a modern, sophisticated way.
The interiors reveal a captivating interplay of contrastsโwhere classic elegance meets contemporary style, and Eastern traditions blend seamlessly with Western influences. Throughout your stay, you will find yourself enveloped in a sophisticated, multi-sensory experience that celebrates art, craftsmanship, and the subtleties of taste and texture.
Changing Perspectives with Agamograph Artworks
An innovative and captivating feature that enriches the hotel experience are the agamograph artworks that can be found all around the hotel, and inside each guest room. An agamograph is a technique that uses optical illusion to create different visuals when you look at it from different angles. This technique creates a dynamic, shifting narrative as the observer moves, making the artwork come to life with changing perspectives.
Gemstone-Inspired Guest Rooms
We were invited to see the other guest rooms, and that was when I saw the attention to detail to reflect Thai tradition in a contemporary style. Each guest room is a tribute to one of Thailandโs treasured gemstonesโtopaz, sapphire, and emeraldโcreating a thematic experience that reflects the unique qualities of these precious stones.
- Topaz Rooms: Radiate with warm, golden hues, evoking the opulence and comforting glow of topaz. The gilded accents and soft textures in the decor create a luminous and inviting atmosphere that feels both luxurious and serene.
- Sapphire Rooms: Feature deep blue tones and refined decor that mirror the calmness and sophistication of sapphires. The rich blue palette is complemented by sleek furnishings and textured fabrics, creating a tranquil and elegant space that encourages relaxation.
- Emerald Rooms: Embrace the lush, rejuvenating greens of emeralds, enhanced with botanical patterns and natural wood elements. This design evokes a sense of freshness and vitality, blending cultural motifs with a contemporary aesthetic.
Above the bed, one will also find auspicious “chalew” woven bamboo symbols designed to wish every guest good luck and a safe journey. With room sizes ranging from 32 to 56 square meters, there is plenty of space to unwind, and the thoughtful amenities include a comfortable living area with a sofa, premium coffee maker, large LED TV, and rain shower.
Glassware and toiletry sets also match the colours of the room themed, so the emerald-themed guest rooms have green cups, and matching colours even for the furnishings, soap and glassware in the bathroom.
We stayed in a Sapphire Premium King and even the wardrobe was so cleverly designed to incorporate the blue elements, with even a blue belt for the bathrobe and blue hangers. And of course, my favourite part of the stay was the standalone bath, which was a wonderful sanctuary
We were accompanied to our room by the friendly staff at reception and passed a clue for a simple treasure hunt around the room. The simple game helped us explore our room further, where we were able to appreciate the artwork on the wall, and after a few minutes of puzzle solving with simple hints, we found a thoughtful gift (not revealing what the final surprise gift is here so other guests can enjoy the joy of discovery on their own!).
As our stay coincided with my mother’s birthday, the hotel prepared a handwritten note and complimentary slice of cake, and had a variety of local traditional snacks. We had a sumptuous afternoon treat, and enjoyed the cashew nuts, thai cookies, chocolates, and to our pleasant surprise, we even had some nostalgic colourful “gem biscuits”.
Wordplay continues at Vitamin Dee, the hotel’s rooftop pool on the 9th floor offers unblocked views of the Thonglor neighbourhood. Beside the pool is a snack bar that serves evening cocktails, and a 24-hour gym, with Technogym fitness equipment.
EKKALUCK Bangkok: Expect the unexpected
Dining at Madi Paidi Bangkokโs EKKALUCK is a delightful journey where surprises and artful presentations redefine the culinary experience. This distinctive venue on the ground floor (next to the lobby reception) harmoniously blends traditional Thai flavors with modern culinary techniques, creating dishes that are as visually striking as they are delicious.
From the moment you enter, EKKALUCK captivates with its chic yet inviting ambiance. Each dish at Ekkaluck is a masterpiece, meticulously crafted to tell a story and presented with an artistic flair that reflects the restaurantโs commitment to creativity and excellence.
Breakfast at EKKALUCK is a generous semi-buffet of bread, pastries, yogurts and cold cuts. and impressively, the hotel helps reduce food waste where guests can choose from the a-la-carte hot breakfast menu. I was delighted to find unique homemade jams showcasing different Thai flavours like Jackfruit Vanilla, Pomelo Orange Marmalade, and Pineapple Lime.
Mom and I ordered their breakfast bowls, one Granola bowl that was topped with mango, orange, fig, rosemary, mint and other dried fruit, and a Quiona Fruit Salad that had generous servings of blueberries, strawberries, mango, banana, almonds, green melon and served with a flavourful honey lime dressing. Fruits were prepared upon request, so we had freshly cut seasonal fruits based on our individual preference
The EKKALUCK Congee “Jok” is a typically simple dish elevated with shredded sous vide chicken, salty egg truffles, crispy noodles, and extra condiments that include fried garlic and crispy chicken. Even their Egg Benedict breakfast option was served using organic eggs and smoked salmon, topped with their own Truffle hollandaise sauce.
We enjoyed our breakfast and with the help of our friendly restaurant staff, learnt that EKKALUCK is known for its memorable dishes as they are prepared and served as edible artworks, meticulously arranged to captivate both the eye and the appetite.
We decided to make a reservation for lunch, and the meal was the best we had on this trip to Bangkok! The menu is an enticing mix of Thai and international fare, where traditional recipes are given a modern twist. These twists are not overly complex but are instead thoughtfully incorporated to enhance each dish without overshadowing the core flavors.
We decided to order one soup dish and one main course to share, and were blown away by the uniqueness of both the Wild Thai mushroom soup, served in a bowl of bread and cleverly presented like a garden of mushrooms served on top green peas purรฉe and enhanced with fragrant truffle Their signature Pad Thai Chao Phraya was accompanied with a serving of soup, and that brought about a new flavourful “soup” Pad Thai. Diners are encouraged to try the dish in two different ways, first the dry version, and then the EKKALUCK interpretation of the classic dish by adding the chicken broth, for an elevated “Chao Phraya-inspired” version.
What truly sets EKKALUCK apart is its originality in taste, reflecting the origin of its name where Ekkaluck translate to “unique” in Thai. The restaurant prides itself on taking classic recipes and reinterpreting them to create novel dishes. Executive Chef Teerathep Tishabhiromya (“Chef Tor”) ensures that every dish is not just a meal but an experience that lingers in memory. This approach allows EKKALUCK to delight diners with new and unexpected flavor combinations.
Open throughout the day, EKKALUCK works with small-scale farms and fisheries to locally source ingredients.
Thong Lor Neighbourhood
The concierge team is super helpful and knowledgable and made some wonderful recommendations for us. Conveniently located to Thong Lo BTS station, a 3-min walk away, Madi Paidi is highly recommended as a base for gourmands to explore some of the best dining establishments in Bangkok.
In fact, just beside the hotel is the reopened Bo.lan, where the restaurant is open for dinner service (Chef’s tasting menu) from Thursday โ Sunday and there is also a Bo.lan grocery store and organic cafe.
Khua Kling Pak Sod is a Michelin bib Southern-Thai family-run restaurant just further down Soi 53, tucked away on a side street (Soi Thonglor 5). Fair warning though, the food is typically spicy, and their signature dish, Khua Kling Moo Sab, a stir-fried dry Khua Kling curry with minced pork is highly reputed as a fiery dish! Another popular dish to order is Gaeng Pu Bai Cha Plu, yellow curry served with generous crab meat prepared with betel leaves. The dishes are said to be created using the family’s grandmother’s recipes in the tradition of the southern district of TahSae in Chumpon where she was raised.
Other recommended foodie finds within walking distance include theCOMMONS and Rolling Roasters, a multi-hypenate venue which is a cafe by day and transforms into a futuristic cocktail bar after 5.30pm everyday.
theCOMMONS is a hyper-local lifestyle hub that is home to a collective of F&B brands that focus on local produce. Learn about different cultures and the ongoing refugee crisis through homemade meals prepared by refugee hosts through Monthly Refugee Dinnners organised in partnership with Na Projects Group and Click-Aroi project under Asylum Access Thailand to raise awareness for the global refugee crisis.
For an authentic travel experience (it is everyday transportation for the locals), and great way to access Pratunam (Central World, Platinum Mall) and skip the traffic jams, is on the Khlong Saen Saep Express Boat. The route is served by 100 boats with 40-50 seats each, and plys along the river at the back of Sukhumvit with fares ranging between 12 to 25 baht. (Less than $1 USD). The nearest stop close to the hotel is Soi Thonglor but walking can be quite a distance, so get the hotel to arrange for a taxi or a tuk tuk to get you there.
Madi Paidi offers a seamless blend of cultural richness with modern conveniences, and I enjoyed by stay at the tranquil and captivating hotel. The harmonious integration of tradition and innovation made my stay both enriching and delightful, and it will definitely appeal to anyone who appreciate elegance, creativity, and thoughtful design.
