Chronicles of Nostalgia: Stay at Lanson Place Causeway Bay and join a Ding Ding Qipao Tour

Hong Kong’s iconic trams—affectionately known as “Ding Ding”—are about to take travelers on a nostalgic journey through the city’s vibrant past. Lanson Place Causeway Bay has partnered with Hong Kong Tramways to launch the Ding Ding Qipao Tour, a unique cultural experience that blends heritage, fashion, and storytelling.

Running during the weekend, the tour will start from 17 May 2025. Passengers will ride on a beautifully restored 1920s-style open-top tram, traveling from Sheung Wan to Causeway Bay and the experience is enhanced with an option to don traditional qipaos.

Originating from the Qing dynasty (1644–1912), qipaos are a hallmark of Chinese identity, renowned for their elegance and historical significance. Their popularity surged in Hong Kong during the 1960s due to a significant influx of Shanghainese immigrants. The experience is a celebration of Hong Kong’s golden era, offering a fresh perspective on the city’s rich history.

A Fusion of Culture & Modern Elegance

For this tour, participants can rent authentic qipaos from Yan Shang Kee, a boutique in Central, with styles available for women, men, and children. Whether you’re a couple, a group of friends, or a family, this is a chance to dress up and relive the charm of old Hong Kong.

As the tram glides through the city’s bustling streets, guests will soak in the sights and sounds while learning about Hong Kong’s cultural evolution. The journey ends at Causeway Bay Terminus, where participants can visit Salon Lanson at Lanson Place for a special cocktail inspired by The World of Suzie Wong—a classic romantic film set in 1960s Hong Kong.
